From SXSW to When the Dream Got Real
LA Lloyd first crossed paths with Olive Vox years ago when the band was still playing SXSW showcases in Austin. Now, the Texas alt-rock band has signed with Big Machine Rock, toured with the Toadies, caught the attention of Matt Pinfield and released Trace It Back, a new EP built around growth, regret, honesty and everything that comes with figuring out who you are while the world starts paying attention.
Hear Me Out
On the Rock 30, Olive Vox talks about what changed when brothers Parker James and Caden Shea stopped feeling like big brother and little brother and started meeting each other as creative equals. The band also opens up about learning to trust each member’s musical instincts, hearing their songs on the radio for the first time, and what it means when a song becomes more personal than they expected. “Hear Me Out” captures that tension perfectly — looking back at mistakes, trying to forgive yourself, and realizing some things are much harder to leave behind than others.
Baby Doll
Then there’s “BABYDOLL,” the song Matt Pinfield singled out for its swagger and attitude — the kind of rock and roll energy he said the genre needs more of right now. For Olive Vox, that kind of support is another sign that the years of work are starting to connect. And for Lloyd, seeing a band he knew in the SXSW days now reaching a national audience makes this interview feel a little full-circle.
