This Labor Day weekend, Chris Robertson of Black Stone Cherry returns for his 17th appearance with LA Lloyd on the Rock 30. After more than two decades of conversations, this one goes somewhere deeper — into the songs that carry real pieces of the lives behind the band. Chris opens up about family, loss, friendship and why success at this point isn’t about another milestone. It’s about appreciating the people and moments that are here right now.
Deep
One of those stories is “Deep.” Guitarist Ben Wells and his wife Jess had been dealing with infertility when they learned they were expecting, only to lose the pregnancy. The band postponed a writing session, but the next day Ben called and said he wanted to work. He arrived with lyrics for music Black Stone Cherry had already written. Chris remembers hearing Ben’s words and realizing immediately that this wasn’t simply another song — it was his friend’s pain, and a story the band had been trusted to carry.
